Nmbrs wins FD Gazellen Award for the fifteenth time in a row

Fifteen times! That is how often we at Nmbrs have received the FD Gazelle award. For fifteen years in a row, we have been one of the fastest growing companies in the Netherlands. This means that we can now proudly call ourselves FD Gazelle 2025.

The key to success

Every year, Nmbrs features in the FD's (Het Financieel Dagblad) ranking of fast-growing companies. 'This is mainly due to the user-friendliness of our payroll administration systems,' says Michiel Chevalier. 'The products are not only useful for specialists, but also for employers and employees.'

User-friendliness and efficiency

If an employee in a company car receives a fine, the employer can enter it themselves for the settlement with the salary. If an employee moves, they fill in their new address details themselves. This saves errors and follow-up calls by the accountant or bookkeeper. ‘Is that new guy called Bert or Gert?’

The inspiration behind Nmbrs

Michiel Chevalier came up with the idea for Nmbrs when he was still an HR service provider himself. ‘I wanted a system that end users could also use. That kept costs down. When it turned out that the system didn’t exist, I started developing it myself.’

Steady growth in a competitive market

Nmbrs is one of the robust growers among the FD Gazelles, but not one of the fastest growers. That’s not so strange, says Chevalier: ‘Payslips are mandatory, so every employer already has a system.’ That means that Chevalier has to convince employers to switch to his. And once that has been achieved, the data has to be transferred. ‘Growth in an existing market simply takes more time than in a new market.’

Nevertheless, Nmbrs’ turnover has grown from €676,880 to €20 million in fifteen years. ‘1.5 million employees now receive their pay slips via our systems,’ says Chevalier. Nmbrs has a market share of 40% for companies with fewer than twenty employees, and more than 5% for companies with twenty to five hundred employees. ‘But we are growing rapidly in that segment.’

To qualify for this business award, companies must show a turnover growth of at least 20% over a period of three years. In addition, the companies must be financially healthy and the result in the year of participation must be positive.
